The phrase “Midjourney gratis” is one of the most searched terms in the AI art community. For creators, designers, and hobbyists eager to test out some of the highest-quality generative art capabilities on the market without opening their wallets, finding a free path into Midjourney is a top priority.
However, navigating the landscape of AI tools requires looking closely at what is official, what has changed, and what smart workarounds exist.
The Reality of Midjourney’s Free Status
To understand how to use “Midjourney gratis,” it helps to know the current official policy: Midjourney does not offer a traditional, unrestricted free trial on its main website or Discord server.
Due to overwhelming demand and widespread account abuse, Midjourney removed its popular free trial system. Today, the main platform operates entirely on paid individual tiers, which start around $10 to $12 per month.
Even so, “gratis” isn’t entirely out of reach. Several official pathways and ecosystem partners let you experience Midjourney’s powerful underlying technology for free.
Official & Authorized Ways to Access Midjourney for Free
If you want to try out the engine without paying a subscription fee, you can use these verified options:
1. The Niji·Journey Mobile App
- What it is: Niji·Journey is an official companion app created via a partnership between Midjourney and Spellbrush, fine-tuned specifically for anime, manga, and stylized illustrations.
- How the free option works: Downloading the Niji·Journey app (available on iOS and Android) grants new users a limited pool of free image generations (typically around 20 free prompts) right out of the box, with no credit card required. It runs on core Midjourney rendering technology, making it a great way to test text-to-image quality on your phone.
2. Meta AI Integration
- What it is: Meta integrated cutting-edge image generation technology powered by Midjourney into its social ecosystems.
- How the free option works: By visiting meta.ai or using the chat features inside platforms like Facebook Messenger, Instagram, or WhatsApp, users can generate images using prompts entirely for free. While it doesn’t give you the granular parameter control (like aspect ratios or style weights) of the raw Midjourney web/Discord interface, the visual rendering quality shares deep architectural roots.
Free Alternatives Worth Exploring
If you are looking for a standalone, full-featured AI art generator that is 100% free without trial limitations, several platforms rival Midjourney’s aesthetic flexibility:
- Leonardo.ai: Offers a generous daily pool of free tokens, robust prompt controls, canvas editors, and stunning photorealistic or fantasy outputs.
- Krea.ai: Known for real-time generation, upscaling, and incredible aesthetic flexibility with free tiers available.
- Bing Image Creator (Microsoft Designer): Powered by OpenAI’s DALL-E 3, it is completely free to use with a Microsoft account and excels at following complex, text-heavy prompts.
Summary Strategy for Users
- If you want true Midjourney outputs: Download the Niji·Journey mobile app for your first few free generations.
- If you want unlimited free prompt testing: Try Meta AI or dedicated free platforms like Leonardo.ai.
- If you need professional commercial rights and advanced controls: Investing in Midjourney’s entry-level plan remains the standard choice for professional creators.
